  • "Das Leben" sagt Jessica Gall, "ist doch schon laut genug". Den zweiten Teil des Satzes muss sich ihr Gegenüber dazu denken, was allerdings kein großes Ding ist. "Da muss meine Musik" so hätte er auf sicher gelautet, "das nicht auch noch sein." Ist sie auch nicht. Aber intensiv, eindringlich, kaum je wieder zu vergessen, das ist sie schon, und zwar mehr denn je. Mit Picture Perfect hat die Berlinerin jetzt ein Album eingespielt, welches ein großartiges Singer/Songwriter Popalbum ist.

    "Ich bin gern abwechslungsreich, und so höre ich auch privat Musik. Das reicht von Lady Gaga bis zu Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits oder Ella Fitzgerald. Was mich am ehesten anspricht, ist ein guter Text." Von eben diesen strotzt ihr Album nun. Wohl auch deshalb, weil es in genau jenem Umfeld entstand, das Jessica Gall sich wünschte. Gemeinsam mit Robert Matt und den Co-Textern Robin Meloy Goldsby, Shannon Callahan und David Anania hat Jessica Gall einen Platz zwischen den Erinnerungen an den Jazz und dem endlich wieder aufregenden Olymp der Singer/Songwriter gefunden. "Life," says Jessica Gall, "is loud enough." She leaves the rest of the sentence to the imagination, though it’s not too difficult to figure it out. She would surely have continued with: "… my music does not have to add to it." And loud it certainly isn’t. Her music is intense, haunting, near impossible to forget, now more so than ever. Compared to its predecessors, and contrary to its title, the album 'Picture Perfect' is gratifyingly imperfect - in the best sense of the word. And one outstanding singer/songwriter album.

"Diversity appeals to me and that influences what I listen to in my private life, artists ranging from Lady Gaga to Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits and Ella Fitzgerald. What attracts me most is strong lyrics." And that’s something her new album has plenty of. Probably because it was conceived in just the environment that suited Jessica. Together with Robert Matt and co-lyricists Robin Meloy Goldsby, Shannon Callahan and David Anania, Jessica Gall has carved out a niche between jazzy memories and the newly restored Olympus of the singer/songwriter world. From here on in, anything seems possible.
