  The TAB Collective comes musically casual around the corner. The musical start is as casual as the album title Back in town. You get out of the cab with the first number and are in a sound world of warm grooves between soul and jazz. The music tells stories in different colors, the cover is a reference to this narrative attitude.
  
  And yet the musicians tread quite different terrains: sometimes palatable with string arrangements, as in Where do we go from here, or with reminiscences of Stevie Wonder in Civility. Or At Midnight, characterized by stride piano echoes and drive, with a counter-pool in the ballad In your way.
  
  The album stages two great vocalists: Berlin-based Pat Appleton, with Liberian roots, who is a seasoned soul & jazz singer, and Ken Norris. And both sing with radiance and interpretive subtlety, this embedded in a great band consisting of Roland Neffe (vibes), Tino Derado (piano), Andreas Lang (bass) and Emanuel Hauptmann (drums).
  
  TAB Collective seeks the path of multiple influences, here a mastermind was deliberately dispensed with. The result is a musical freshness, which is contagious and in its directness a blessing. With pleasure one returns musically to the city - Back in town!
